December last year saw us finally move into our new offices here in Rotherham. It was a perfect opportunity to create an environment that not only inspired productivity but also reflects the values and history of our local community. That is precisely what we set out to achieve by commissioning two wall murals created by the talented Steph Masters from Wall Nuts. These murals not only represent our journey as a team but also pay homage to the rich heritage and culture of our local area, which was once a vibrant mining community. Let's explore the artistic marvels that now adorn our office walls.
The Main Wall: A Tapestry of Local Culture and Landmarks
The centrepiece of our office’s transformation is the main wall mural. It serves as a visual narrative, representing our journey with iconic elements from the local community’s history.
The nods to two renowned local films, ‘Kes‘ and ‘The Full Monty,’ evoke a sense of nostalgia and pride. These movies not only captured the hearts of audiences but also showcased the struggles and triumphs of the people in this very community. By incorporating these cinematic references, the mural reminds us of the resilience and determination that lies at the core of our team.
In addition to the film references, the mural features prominent landmarks that have left an indelible mark on our community. The (now demolished) cooling towers, once an iconic sight, remind us of the historical significance of our area. The Leadmill, a legendary music venue that has witnessed countless performances and united people through music, serves as a testament to the vibrancy and culture that permeates our locality.
The Second Wall: Our Company Culture
The second wall mural serves as a vibrant celebration of our company culture while paying tribute to the mining heritage of Manvers. A Word Cloud captures the values and attributes that define our team. Steph skilfully weaves together the essence of our shared spirit, encapsulating our core values in a visually striking image. Showcasing keywords and phrases that are integral to our identity, these reminders adorn our workspace, constantly inspiring us to work together towards our collective goals.
Also featured in this mural is a powerful image of a Pit Head Winding wheel, now just a relic, symbolising the mining heritage that once thrived in Manvers. The image acts as a poignant reminder of the community’s roots and the determination that permeates our team.
One of the things that we loved about working with Steph was her attention to detail. She took the time to understand our needs and vision for the murals, and she worked with us to create something that was truly unique and special. The murals are not just decorative, they are a reflection of our values and our commitment to our community.
We could not be happier with the end result. They are a stunning addition to our office, and they serve as a constant reminder of our journey and the community that we are a part of. We would highly recommend Steph and her team to anyone looking to add a touch of creativity and personality to their space.
